Colleyville emerged from a number of small, rural settlements along the Cotton Belt Route, including Spring Garden, Pleasant Run, Pleasant Glade, Bransford, Red Rock, and Glen Hope.
Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley settled there in 1880. He was a prominent area physician and a veteran of the Union Army. In 1914, when Walter G. Couch opened a grocery store near Dr. Colley’s home, the community was renamed Colleyville in his honor.
Colleyville was transformed from a country town to an affluent suburb, and became incorporated on January 10, 1956, and its city limits are now contiguous with those of Grapevine and Euless on the east, Bedford and Hurst on the south, Keller and North Richland Hills on the west and Southlake on the north.
